Hindu Group Calls for Survey of Agra’s Shahi Jama Masjid Following Mathura Mosque Controversy.

New Delhi: On Friday, a Hindu group called for a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Agra, leading to a tense situation in the most parts of Muslim area after prayers. This demand followed the Allahabad High Court’s approval for an initial survey of the Shahi Idgah complex near the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Despite the administration’s advice against such activities, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha distributed sweets near the Jama Masjid, prompting the deployment of a significant number of police personnel in the area.

Sanjay Jat, the national spokesman for Hindu Mahasabha, insisted on a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Agra, claiming that the ‘Vigrah’ taken from the Keshavdev Temple in Mathura had been buried by Emperor Aurangzeb under the mosque’s stairs. Authorities and elders intervened to prevent a potential clash between the two groups.

Sami Aghai, the Chairman of Bharatiya Muslim Vikas Parishad, expressed that while Muslims may have lost the legal battle in the Allahabad High Court, their faith in India’s legal system remains. He argued that the court’s order contradicts the 1968 agreement between Hindus and Muslims, which divided the 13.37 acres of Krishna Janmabhoomi land. According to the agreement, 10.9 acres were allocated to Krishna Janmabhoomi and 2.5 acres to the Idgah. Aghai asserted that the court’s order also violates the 1991 Places of Worship Act and will be contested in the Supreme Court.
